All courses have assignments with specific due dates. It is expected that students manage their time appropriately to ensure these deadlines are met. Time management and independent learning are key student learning outcomes for Pamoja students.
However, there may be times where students request or require an extension on an assignment deadline.
Requests for an extension should be made by a student before the assignment due date, with as much advance notice as possible. Requests within the last 24 hours will not be granted unless there are extreme circumstances. If necessary, teachers can contact the student's SBC to get more information and to corroborate the student's reasons.
The following practice should be followed when asking for extensions.
-
Extension requests for high stakes coursework items such as IAs should be made directly from the SBC. Either to the teacher or School Services via courses@pamojaeducation.com
-
SBCs should be aware of all extensions for their students. Students are encouraged to CC their SBC into email requests for extensions. If the SBC is not included, teachers or School Services will add them to the email when they respond to the student.
-
School Services should be notified if the student is going to be absent for a significant length of time. Placing student of the 'do not contact' (DNC) list should be considered if extended absence is expected.
-
Any requests for an extension after the due date will not be granted without extenuating circumstances, such as medically evidenced absence. This will be verified and confirmed with the SBC.
-
Assignments submitted after the due date, without a valid extension, will be recorded as a late submission and students still receive feedback on this assignment, although no grade or mark is entered into the column in the Gradebook.
Repeated Extension Requests
If a student requires flexible deadlines, or persistently asks for extensions on assignments owing to extenuating circumstances, the SBC needs to contact the teacher or School Services. Such cases will be flagged to the Academic Team. The designated Academic Operations Manager will investigate the case and suggest a plan for the student.
Whole Class Extensions
A whole class extension request should be made directly from the SBC to the teacher or School Services (courses@pamojaeducation.com). Whole class extensions will only be completed with clear consent and guidance from the Course Adviser or Academic Operations Manager.
Late and Transfer students
Students joining a course late will require extensions for catching up on assignments. Due dates for assignments will be adjusted by the student's teacher in the Managebac system to match the student’s catch-up plan.
