As a provider of online courses, Pamoja Education is always looking for ways to support our students, particularly those that come to us with some form of Special Educational Need and Disability (SEND). The online teaching and learning environment provides an excellent space for students to work at their own pace whilst continuously having all course material available. They can also contribute to class discussions at a time that suits them, rather than being placed under pressure in the classroom.
When registering with Pamoja you must ensure that you provide the student’s IEP (Individual Education Plan, or similar) and any other supporting documentation that may help us to assess and understand the needs of an individual student
Our teachers will do their best to make the accommodations needed for the student to succeed.
It is the school’s responsibility to contact the IB should they require inclusive assessment arrangements to be made for the formal assessments.
Accommodations for students with SEND/Access Requirements - Pamoja Internal Examinations
When students sit their End of Year (EoY) and Trial examinations in school, we expect them to be conducted under exam conditions as outlined by the International Baccalaureate Organisation. The SBC will receive the paper to give to the student and it is their responsibility to organise the extra time or any other special arrangements with the student as outlined in the student’s IEP.
Accommodations for students with SEND/Access Requirements -Assignment deadlines
Students who need extra time will need to factor this in prior to the assignment deadline rather than request a deadline extension. This applies to Internal Assessments and projects (such as in Film) where IB guidelines indicate the time period allowed for assessment, for example, a maximum of 30 days.
Granting requests for additional time would mean violating IB procedures and invalidating assessments. However, there is no time limit placed on pieces of work so students can spend as long as they need on their assignment prior to the deadline.
It is important for students to consider how they will approach an assignment to ensure that they are successful in meeting the deadline. In these circumstances, please encourage the student to discuss a plan of action with their Pamoja teacher so that they can ensure that adequate support is in place to support the student in meeting the deadline.
Other accommodations
Pamoja Education tries to consider all Special Educational Needs whilst building a course. We use ‘Zoom’ to host our Online Events, so they are all recorded. This means that they can be played back at any time and transcripts are automatically generated. Lessons are also broken down into manageable chunks and can be completed at a time that suits the students. Once we have received the IEP for your student, we provide the necessary information to their teacher who will try to provide appropriate support. We always strive to ensure that all our students have the best possible learning experience.
If you would like any further information on how we can support specific students please contact admissions@pamojaeducation.com.
