This article will explain how to utilise the flexible functionality of the course manager in your Pamoja Lesson Suite Cambridge International course.
1.How to access the Course Manager
You will be able access the course manager via the 'manage' button underneath your course. Courses are accessed by clicking on the Course option in the top navigation bar.
2. Setting the course start and end date
When you first log in to the platform you will need to enter the course start and end date and your timezone. These dates will most likely be the first and last day of the school year. Once these dates have been entered you have the ability to edit/change them should you need to.
3. Unit Order and Visibility
After you have entered the course start and end dates you will be able to view the units and lessons within your course.
a. Hidden/Visible Units
When you first login the units will be in the order recommended by Pamoja, however you have the ability to change the order of the units and make them hidden or visible.
If you would like to make a unit visible, you will need to toggle the button in the top right hand corner of the unit.
Students will not be able to see any lessons within hidden units.
b. Changing the order of Units
To change the order of units you will need to use the arrow buttons next to each unit. This will allow you to alter the order in which your students will see the units.
c. Publishing changes
If you make changes to your course you will need to publish the changes to make them visible to your students. You can publish your changes via the 'publish' button in the bottom right hand corner of the page. You will be notified if you make changes to your course without publishing.
Once you have made changes you can check what your students see by clicking on the live button above the first unit. When you are in the student view of the course you will be able to see the assignments within active lessons. You will also be able to make contributions and interact with your students within discussions and wiki assignments.
The 'default' button next to the 'live' button will show you the unit order recommended by Pamoja; this is the order of units prior to any changes.
3.Summary of Unit Content
a. Unit Overview
The 'unit overview' button will provide you with information regarding the unit. It includes: material guidance, what will be covered in the unit, what prior learning may be required and estimates on completion/study times.
b. Unit Summary
Each unit will show a summary of the total number of lessons within a unit (for example, there are a total of two lessons in the above unit). By clicking on the open button at the bottom of each unit you will see all the lessons within the unit. The state of a lesson can be changed to: Active, View Only or Hidden.
The state of the lesson will not affect the total number of lessons in a unit - this number will never change.
The number of active lessons is the number of lessons in a unit that have an assignment with a due date. You can edit the due date of an assignment by using the column on the right hand side of the lesson. The due date for an assignment is set by the teacher. However, a due date has to be defined in order for the lesson to be active. Please note, not all lessons have an assignment and lessons with assignments can be hidden.
N.B Please do not change the due date of an assignment once students have started to submit work. If the due date is changed after a student has uploaded their work this may have a negative effect on student data and their work may be lost.
The unit summary will also show you the number of lessons which are set to view only and hidden. Students will be able to access the content of the view only lessons but will not have an assignment to complete. Students will not be able to see hidden lessons.
The summary will also show the number of due dates set within a unit.
You can access the student view of a lesson by clicking on the preview button at the top right of the lesson.
